Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Light therapy helps to alleviate seasonal depression, or wintertime blues.

Light therapy involves exposure to bright light that mimics natural sunlight. This treatment can alleviate SAD symptoms, regulate circadian rhythms, and boost your mood.

I have used the lamp below (link), which is relatively inexpensive and it really helps! The recommended use is just 20 minutes each day, either while reading or just relaxing (eyes open). Do not look directly at the light, at the same time, allow the light into your eyes.

It’s worth mentioning that light therapy can help people who have dementia to improve neuronal function and circadian rhythms to improve sleep.

It is important that you not overdo it! Too much of a good thing is not a good thing in this case because it can induce a manic phase in some people, which will only exacerbate the problem.

Light is healing! Ask your pets why they always like to nap in that beam of afternoon sunshine.
